The SMART goal setting approach will give you maximum chance of succeeding in making long lasting change.
Your SMART goal setting consultation will last 2 hours and costs £199.
SMART Goals Are:
Specific - You should state exactly what you want to achieve and how you’re going to do it. It’s a good idea to plan a series of small goals that build on each other to reach your main goal at the end. A small goal might be to “I eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day.”
Measurable - Measurable goals will help you to see the progress you’re making. You may say, “I eat 6 portions of fruit each day.” This is something that you will then be able to measure at the end of each day, and as a result you will be able to note achievement in this area.
Achievable - We are much more likely to maintain goals which are achievable - this is fact! When you succeed in achieving small goals you can gradually build up to a main goal. For example your main goal may be “I weigh 12 stone by Christmas day 2009.” This may be totally achievable if you currently weigh 13 stone and have a clear understanding of what you need to do, but impossible if you weigh 20 stone and have no direction. Unachievable goals will destroy motivation – make them achievable!
Realistic - Make sure the actions set are within your control, no point setting a goal that you will eat 3 balanced meals a day if you have no concept of what constitutes a balanced meal.
Timed - Set timescales for achieving goals. If you’re changing a habit of a lifetime, it will take time, so allow yourself weeks, rather than days to achieve goals and be patient with yourself. ‘I am eating 3 balanced meals a day by 30 April 2011’.
